Free Your Words

Welcome to the new and improved Jennifer Dinsmore Editorial. I have been working hard over the past few months, and am so excited about what’s in store.

Now … Chances are you’re here because you want someone to take another look at your story, or you need help getting past a tricky draft. Perhaps you’re looking for advice about how to get published, or want to nail down Showing vs Telling.

You’ve come to the perfect place. I know there is a wealth of resources out there on story structure and pacing and self-editing. And that’s great! But since I started this journey I came to realize something: For the most part, writers talk to other writers and editors talk to other editors. Then clients trickled in and asked questions like “What do you really do, as an editor?” or “What’s the difference between copy editing and proofreading?” or “Now I’m done my novel, how do I get published?”

I was a little shocked at the disconnect between these two camps, so I’ve set out to bridge them. I’ll demystify what it is a good editor does, the difference between the types of editing (and how to know which is right for you), and the next steps to take after you finally feel you’ve got a polished story. Of course, I’ll also share how to get the most out of your narrative through plot and characterization and everything in between.

My aim is to provide you professional, friendly guidance. I want to break down the barrier between the so-called gatekeepers and creators, giving you practical advice from someone who knows the industry.

I do hope you’ll join me ... And don’t forget to bookmark this page! I’ll be back in a few weeks.

Yours in adventure,

Jennifer Dinsmore
